Follow this step-by-step guide to install your DEPULEY track lighting kit with swivel arms. Learn wiring, mounting, and adjustment tips for a safe, polished setup.

Quick answer

Mount the DEPULEY track lighting kit to a ceiling junction box, connect the wires, attach the track, then adjust the swivel arms to direct light where you need it.

Before you start: tools and safety

Turn off power at the breaker and use a voltage tester to confirm the wires are dead. You'll need a screwdriver, wire strippers, wire nuts, and a drill if your ceiling lacks a pre-cut hole for the junction box. The DEPULEY kit includes the track and integrated LED heads, but you supply the mounting hardware for the junction box if it's not already installed.

Choosing the right location

The DEPULEY 4-light flush mount track lighting kit works best over a kitchen island, sink, or hallway where directional light is useful. Because the heads swivel and the arms fold, you can aim light at countertops or artwork without moving the track. Make sure the ceiling has a junction box rated for the fixture's weight (the kit is lightweight at roughly 3 lbs).

Step-by-step installation guide

  1. 1. Turn off power and prepare the junction box: Switch off the circuit breaker for the room. Remove the existing ceiling fixture if present. Ensure the junction box is securely fastened to a ceiling joist or support. If you're installing a new box, use an old-work box rated for ceiling fixtures. Skipping the voltage test is the most common mistake—always double-check wires are dead before touching them.
  2. 2. Connect the fixture wires: Feed the DEPULEY track's wire leads through the mounting bracket. Use wire nuts to connect the black (hot) wire to the black house wire, white (neutral) to white, and green or bare copper (ground) to the ground wire. Tuck the connections neatly into the junction box. If the box is shallow, push wires in gently to avoid pinching or loosening the wire nuts.
  3. 3. Mount the track to the ceiling: Attach the mounting bracket to the junction box with the provided screws. Then align the track's base plate over the bracket and secure it with the included screws. The flush mount design sits flat against the ceiling with no visible gap. Make sure the track is level before tightening—use a small spirit level if needed.
  4. 4. Adjust the swivel arms and heads: Once mounted, rotate each of the 4 swivel heads to point light where you want it. The arms can also be folded to change the spread of light. For a kitchen island, aim two heads toward the counter and two toward the seating area. Don't overtighten the swivel joints—they're designed to move freely and will hold position without forcing.
  5. 5. Restore power and test: Turn the breaker back on. Flip the wall switch to confirm all four lights illuminate. Adjust any heads that may have shifted during power-up. The 3000K warm white light is instant-on and dimmable if your switch supports it. If a light doesn't turn on, check the wire connections at that head—sometimes a loose plug inside the track can cause a single light to fail.
